The clock art is very old, and the non-self-starting synchronous motor driven clocks were among the first of the electric type to appear. Back iu 1895 in Germany, there appeared many electric clocks constructed upon principles somewhat similar to present day electric clocks. They were not entirely satisfactory in that they were difficult to start and would not continue to run indefinitely.
