TJOFLAT, Circuit Judge:

On February 25, 1988, a federal grand jury returned a six-count indictment that charged appellant Clifford Wise with various violations of the narcotics and firearms laws of the United States. 1 After a three-day jury trial, appellant was convicted on all counts. Because appellant’s offenses occurred after November 1, 1987, the district court sentenced appellant pursuant to the sentencing guidelines promulgated by the United States Sentencing Commission.
