The principal issue in this case is whether the trial court had subject matter jurisdiction to modify a custody decree issued by a Superior Court of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. The prior decree awarded the custody of Orlando Perez III (Lanny) to his paternal grandparents, the defendants Orlando Perez, Sr., and Lorraine Perez.1 The defendants have appealed *65from the trial court’s judgment modifying the prior decree and awarding custody of the child to his mother, the plaintiff Lisa Ann Perez. We find no error.
