FEINBERG, Circuit Judge:

Harold Konigsberg, no stranger to the federal courts, 1 appeals from the denial of his application for a writ of habeas corpus by the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. The petition contained a variety of claims, all attacking the validity of Konigsberg’s 1967 conviction in a New York State court of extortion and of conspiracy to extort, 2 for which Konigsberg received a long prison sentence. 3 The habeas petition was referred by Judge Harold R.
