Appeal from a judgment of the Supreme Court (Rogers, J.) awarding, inter alia, custody of the parties’ children to defendant, entered December 6, 1999 in St. Lawrence County, upon a decision of the court.

After a nine-year marriage, plaintiff filed this action for divorce in October 1997. The only issues to be resolved by Supreme Court were the custody and visitation of the parties’ three children, now ages 12, 10 and 7. Amid the parties’ *687countering accusations of excessive drinking habits and altercations caused by the other, Supreme Court determined that the best interests of the children…
