At about 9:30 o’clock on the morning of March 15, 1920, the defendant, an ex-soldier in the late war, twenty-three years of age, left his home and went by street car to a point on the Wells-Farwell line not far from 305 Prospect avenue. Fie wore an army raincoat and carrieá a suitcase. Upon reaching No. 305 he rang the bell to the apartment. When the door was opened he walked in and asked the little girl who opened it where her mother was. At this time the maid appeared and the defendant said, “Stand still, put up your hands,” and…
