The district attorney seeks, by two petitions for writs of mandamus, originally heard by a single justice of this court, to require the trial judge and the justices of the Superior Court (the justices) to take all necessary steps to effect the return to the house of correction of one Roderick and one 'Sileno, each a defendant convicted in the Superior Court in the county of Middlesex for violation of the gaming laws.
