Appellant Merle Lyle Chaussee, hereinafter referred to as the defendant, was convicted of the crime of aggravated battery on a government reservation in violation of 18 U.S.C. §§ 7 and 13, the Assimilative Crimes Act, and Illinois Revised Statutes, Chapter 38, § 12-4.
