Defendant was convicted of murder following a jury trial in the circuit court of Kane County in violation of section 9 — 1(a)(1) of the Criminal Code of 1961 (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1981, ch. 38, par. 9 — 1(a)(1)). He was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment.
