The controversy in this action grows out of a schism in the Church of the "United Brethren in Christ, occurring at the general conference of the church at York, Pennsylvania, in the year 1889.
The Church of the United Brethren originated in a voluntary association of Protestants of various denominations at some period during the eighteenth. century; and its original creed was simply that of the orthodox Protestant churches generally,but allowing divergencies in matters wherein they differed.
