QUINN, Justice.

The defendant, Robert Chavez (defendant), appeals his conviction of two counts of second degree burglary of a dwelling, section 18-4-203, C.R.S. 1973 (1978 Repl. Vol. 8). He alleges that the trial court erred in denying his pretrial motion to prohibit pros-ecutorial use of prior conviction evidence as substantive proof of habitual criminal charges.
