BELL, Chief Justice.

This is an appeal from a judgment in favor of appellee against appellants in the amount of $1,413,289.05. This represents in part the amount that employees of the City of Houston (herein called City) had contributed to the City pension system while they were employed by the City in its operation of the charitable hospital facilities, less the withdrawals that some of such employees had made between the time appellee was created in November, 1965, and June 8, 1967, the effective date of Article 6243g, Section 23a, Vernon’s Ann.Tex.
