Gregory Kuczora falsely represented to unwary investors that he could help them secure millions of dollars in financing. In return they paid him large sums of money to cover fees, which Kuczora pocketed for personal use before disappearing. For this conduct he pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud, and the district judge imposed an above-Guidelines prison sentence of 70 months.
