This is a petition for a writ of mandamus.

Cheryl H. Gurley and Jerry Nolan Gurley were divorced in May 1991. The divorce judgment, inter alia, ordered the husband to pay $4500 per month in periodic alimony.

In May 1993, the husband filed a petition seeking to modify the amount of the alimony payments, alleging that there had been a material change in circumstances.
