This case is on appeal after more than 10 years of litigation following the closing of the old Metropolitan Opera House (the "Old Met”) in New York City in 1966. Before moving to its new quarters in the Lincoln Center the Metropolitan Opera Association, Inc. entered into a 50-year lease which called for the demolition of the old building and construction of a modern office building on the site of the Old Met.
