On July 19, 2005, Lisa Lou Ritter was indicted by a Panola County grand jury for securing execution of a document by deception. Ritter was arrested and posted bond on July 20, 2005. Over the ensuing eleven and one-half years, there was scant activity in the case until Ritter’s third appointed attorney filed a motion to dismiss the indictment asserting a violation of her right to a speedy trial.
