In 1887 George Banner was led to believe that his farm, lying on the south side of Clinch river, in the county of Bussell, just opposite the point at which it was expected that the Clinch Valley Branch of the Horfolk and "Western railway and the Charleston, Cincinnati and Chicago railroad would make a junction, could be sold off into lots and blocks as a site for á town. To this end, Banner, on the 24th day of September, 1887, conveyed the farm to T. L.
