SHEPARD, Justice.

Michael A. Smith appeals his conviction entered after a jury trial for robbery, a class B felony. Ind.Code § 85-42-5-1 (1979 Burns Repl.) The judge sentenced Smith to a term of twenty years imprisonment. Smith raises the following four issues in this direct appeal:

1) Whether there was sufficient evidence to support a verdict of guilty of robbery;

2) Whether the trial court erred in denying Smith's motion for continuance made on the morning of the first day of trial;

3) Whether Smith was denied effective assistance of counsel;
