TJOFLAT, Circuit Judge:

In this putative class action, 1 physicians are suing many of this country’s largest HMOs, alleging that these organizations conspired to systematically underpay them for their medical services. The defendant HMOs immediately moved the district court to stay the proceedings and compel the named plaintiffs to arbitrate their claims.
