Defendants Martin Cardenas and Julian Rivera-Chacon were tried jointly in the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico. A jury rendered guilty verdicts on all counts in the indictments: conspiracy to distribute cocaine in violation of 21 U.S.C.A. § 846 (1981); possession with intent to distribute cocaine in violation of 21 U.S.C.A. § 841(a)(1) (1981); aiding and abetting in violation of 18 U.S.C.
