The plaintiff, Gail Chenell, sued the defendants, Central Wheelchair and Van Transportation, Inc. (Central) and its employee, Brendan Michael Cross, seeking damages for personal injuries that she sustained in a motor vehicle accident. At a trial in the District Court, the judge allowed the defendants' motion for a directed verdict pursuant to Mass.R.Civ.P. 50(a), 365 Mass. 814 (1974).
