OPINION
BRYNER, Justice.
I. INTRODUCTION
In a probate proceeding involving the estate of his deceased wife, Robert J. Riddell petitioned as a surviving spouse to receive his statutory homestead allowance, family allowance, and elective share. Despite finding that Riddell had "ingratiated himself" to his wife before their marriage "for the purposel ] of obtaining her assets" and that his wife had suffered from dementia for the majority of their relationship, the superior court ruled that Riddell and his wife had been validly married and that the estate had no standing to argue that the marriage…
