ORR, Justice.

Defendant was convicted on two counts each of first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping, and robbery with a dangerous weapon at the 25 July 1995 Criminal Session of Superior Court, Wayne County, for his participation in the shooting deaths of Margaret Strickland and Bobby Gene Stroud. Upon the jury’s recommendation, the trial court sentenced defendant to death for each murder; the trial court also sentenced defendant to consecutive terms of forty years’ imprisonment for each count of kidnapping and robbery.
