[{■Defendant, Derrick Bland, was charged by grand jury indictment with second degree murder, a violation of La. R.S. 14:30,1. He pled ¡not guilty and, following a jury trial, was found guilty as charged. Defendant subsequently filed motions for new trial and postverdict judgment of acquittal.1 In a written ruling, the trial court denied the motion for new trial, but granted the motion for postverdict judgment of acquittal and reduced defendant’s conviction to negligent homicide, a violation of La.
