The testimony in this case shows the defendants, Murray & Mason, were large tobacco, manufacturers, occupying for that purpose the two buildings being Nos. 174 and 176 North Water street, in the city of Chicago. These two buildings so communicated with each other by means of archways as to be used as one. The houses were four stories high, with a cellar, and fronted to the north. Hogsheads of tobacco and heavy material were carried from the first floor to the different floors above, by means of an elevator running through hatchwaj-s cut in each floor.
