OPINION BY BOWES, J.:

¶ 1 Union Railroad Company (“Union”) appeals from the judgment entered on the jury verdict awarding James Meyer $600,000 for damages associated with injuries suffered in the course of his employment with Union. We reverse and remand.

¶2 The trial court stated the facts as follows:

On [May 27, 2000] the date when Mr. Meyer suffered his injury, he was working as a brakeman, working a shift that started at midnight and ended at ten o’clock the following morning. In pulling the cutting lever on the caboose, plaintiff pulled on the lever two times, averring that the cutting…
