The issue in this case is whether a circuit court may permit a party to respond to a request for the admission of facts or the genuineness of documents once the 28-day time limit specified by Rule 216(c) (134 Ill. 2d R. 216(c)) has expired. For the reasons that follow, we hold that the court may allow an untimely response where the delinquent party has shown good cause for the delay in accordance with Rule 183 (134 Ill. 2d R. 183).
