This is an appeal by the defendant from a judgment for $3,500, entered after a verdict for $25,000, a motion for judgment n. o. v. or, in the alternative, a new trial, and a remittitur of $21,500 in lieu of a new trial, in an action for libel.
The defendant was elected Treasurer of Baltimore County in 1942 and took office on December 14, 1942. Plaintiff had been Chief Clerk in the Treasurer’s office since 1936, under defendant’s immediate predecessor, and had been a clerk in the office since 1918 under two of defendant’s predecessors.
