The plaintiff sued to recover the amount of an insurance policy for $500 issued by defendant to him on 21 October, 1903, for one year on a stock of goods. The policy contained among others, the following provisions material to be stated: "This policy, unless otherwise provided by agreement indorsed hereon or added hereto, shall be void if the subject of insurance be personal property and be or become encumbered by a chattel mortgage.
