This is a suit brought by the Attorney General, and associate counsel, in the name of the State of Louisiana and of the “Board of Control of the New Basin, Oanal & Shell Road,” to recover from the defendant seventy-seven thousand six hundred and seventy-five dollars, as the aggregate amount alleged to be due for the use and occupancy, from January, 1876, to January, 1899, of certain property, on the north side of the New Oanal extending from the Metairie Road to the Lake, for the purposes of a railroad bed and track, being (as supposed) at…
