On the morning of April 30, 1952, the 90th day before the preferential primary election, appellee Gunter sent his signed check in payment of his ballot fee as a candidate for the office of State Senator to J. H. Coleman, Secretary of the Lonoke County Democratic Central Committee. The amount of the check, which was drawn on the Bank of Cabot, was left blank. The ballot fee for position No. 1 had been fixed by the Committee at a total sum of $200.
