WILLIAMS, Circuit Judge:

Major Maurice Anderson brought suit against Officer David Russell,1 claiming violations of 42 U.S.C.A. § 1983 and various state laws arising from the alleged use of excessive force incident to Anderson’s seizure. Following a jury verdict in favor of Anderson as to his § 1983 claim, the district court granted Russell’s motion for judgment as a matter of law with respect to Russell’s qualified immunity defense, but it denied his motion with…
