FACTUAL BACKGROUND

Plaintiff was retained by defendant and a corporation to do renovation work at residential premises owned by the defendant and the corporation. Plaintiff sent defendant a contract on October 1, 1992, signed by plaintiff’s president, which provided for an estimated completion date of June 30, 1993, a deposit of $50,000 and a monthly fee of $20,000 to do the following work: "Complete renovation of existing structure, including, but not limited to, roof repairs, central air conditioning, new kitchen and bathrooms, partition changes,…
