CLIFFORD, Justice.

Defendant Warren Parsons appeals his judgments of conviction on seven counts of gross sexual misconduct, 17-A M.R.S.A. § 253 (Supp.1988),1 following a jury trial in the Superior Court (Penobscot County, Smith, J.). He contends that the court improperly instructed the jury, that the jury considered matters outside the scope of the evidence, that the evidence was insufficient to convict him, and that the court placed him on probation for a longer period of time than the applicable sentencing statute allowed.
