BENTON, Judge.

This case comes before this Court after a long and muddled history in this state’s justice system. On July 12, 1983, Reginald Griffin, appellant, and his codefendant Doyle Franks 1 brutally murdered James Bausley while all four men were inmates at the Moberly Training Center for Men. The investigation into this murder was completed by September 13, 1983; but no complaint was filed until January 28, 1987. The trial commenced on January 25, 1988.
