After trial by jury defendant, Richard Mercado, was found guilty of three offenses of reckless homicide (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1981, ch. 38, par. 9 — 3(a)) arising from an automobile collision in which three persons were killed. He was also convicted of driving while under the influence of alcohol (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1981, ch. 951/2, par. 11 — 501(a)(1)) and of driving with a blood alcohol concentration of .10% or more (111. Rev. Stat. 1981, ch. 95 1/2, par. 11 — 501(a)(2)).
