OPINION
WEISBERGER, Justice.
This case comes before us on a petition for certiorari filed by the town of Barring-ton (town) seeking review of an arbitration award issued by a board organized and acting pursuant to the terms of G.L.1956 (1986 Reenactment) chapter 9.2 of title 28, entitled the “Policeman’s Arbitration Act.” The portion of the arbitration award that is challenged by this petition consists of a requirement that the town implement a twenty-year retirement program as permitted by G.L.1956 (1991 Reenactment) § 45-21.2-22.
