John Pope was indicted in the Corporation Court of the city of Norfolk for keeping and maintaining a disorderly house in that city, on November 23, 1920, and on divers other days within twelve months preceding that date,— that is to say, he was indicted for maintaining a common law nuisance. It is not necessary to reproduce the indictment in full. Upon the trial under this indictment, the defendant was convicted, and his punishment fixed by the jury at six months in jail, and a fine of five hundred dollars.
