Steven Miner, plaintiff, filed a class action complaint in the circuit court of Cook County on behalf of a nationwide class of consumers against the defendant, Gillette Company, in connection with defendant’s promotion of its “cricket” disposable butane lighters. Count I alleged that defendant’s conduct amounted to an “unfair and deceptive act or practice” within the meaning of the Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act (Ill. Rev.
