Defendant, Robert L. Baskin, was charged by indictment for attempted murder and attempted armed robbery (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1973, ch. 38, par. 8—4) in September 1974. On May 24, 1976, after a jury trial in the circuit court of Cook County, he was found guilty on both counts. On June 18, 1976, he was sentenced to concurrent respective terms of 6 to 18, and 5 to 15 years of imprisonment, but remained free on bond pending the outcome of his appeal. A notice of appeal was filed by his retained counsel on the same date. The “half-sheet” in that case shows that the matter was continued on the circuit…
