The lawsuit herein arises from a construction accident which occurred on September 27, 1971, at a job site in Woodbury, Long Island, where a building to be known as the GEICO Building was being constructed. Jose Carinha, deceased, and Thomas C. Ryan were carpenters employed by the concrete subcontractor at the site. Defendant Government Employees Insurance Co., Inc. (GEICO) was the owner of the work site and had retained defendant Turner Construction Co. as its general contractor to construct the building. Turner retained defendant Plainview S. & S.
