David Russell was indicted on two counts of aggravated assault1 and one count of escape.2 He pled not guilty to the aggravated assault charges and guilty to the escape charge. A jury found Russell guilty of all three offenses. For these convictions, the jury assessed the maximum punishment available for the enhanced offenses: three life sentences. The trial court sentenced Russell in accordance with the jury verdict.
