WIGGINS, Justice.
Plaintiff brought an action against a contractor, alleging the contractor was negligent at a work site and the contractor’s negligence caused the plaintiff damages. A jury returned a verdict in favor of the contractor, finding the contractor was neg ligent but his negligence was not the cause of any item of the plaintiffs damages. The plaintiff appealed. We transferred the case to the court of appeals. The court of appeals concluded substantial evidence did not support the verdict and ordered a new trial. We granted further review.
