In this debt collection case, plaintiff-appellee Credit Associates of Maui, Ltd. brought an action to collect a total of $11,-092.59 against defendants-appellants Charles W. Brooks and Donna J. Brooks, aka Donna J. Pagan Brooks (collectively, Defendants). The district court denied Defendants’ demand for trial by jury. On appeal, Defendants argue that the district court erred when it denied their demand for trial by jury because the amount in controversy exceeded $5,000.00.
