POSNER, Circuit Judge.
These consolidated cases, one dating back to 1987, were brought on behalf of white firefighters who complain that their right to the equal protection of the laws has been infringed by affirmative-action promotions of black and Hispanic firefighters made by the Chicago Fire Department. (One of the plaintiffs also 'has a Title VII claim of “race norming.”) The district court rendered judgment for the City after a bench trial. We affirmed a similar judgment in McNamara v.
