This action was brought to recover $47,000 claimed to be due for premiums on sixteen different marine insurance policies issued by plaintiff to defendants, covering loss of and damage to shipments of merchandise from various parts of Europe to the United States for and on account of different owners for whom the defendants acted as shipping agents and custom house brokers. The policies are “ open ” policies, that is, each of them covered all shipments to be made while the policy remained in force, and each policy required defendants to report all the shipments made by or through them covered…
