CAMPBELL, Judge.

The widespread enactment of financial responsibility and compulsory insurance laws has caused a decided trend in the courts toward liberal construction of omnibus clauses. It is the purpose of the Financial Responsibility Act to provide protection for persons injured or damaged by the negligent opera tion of automobiles. Hawley v. Insurance Co., 257 N.C. 381, 126 S.E. 2d 161 (1962); Swain v. Insurance Co., 253 N.C. 120, 116 S.E. 2d 482 (1960).
