MARTIN, Justice.

This appeal presents the issue of whether N.C.G.S. § 15-144 •authorizes the use of a short-form indictment to charge attempted first-degree murder.

Evidence presented at trial tended to show that on 30 June 2000, defendant Christopher Nathaniel Jones had an argument with his coworker, Romario Robinson, at their Pineville, North Carolina workplace, Buffalo Tire. After an angry exchange of words, Robinson grabbed a baseball bat, raised it into the air, and directed it towards defendant.
