A military judge1 sitting as a special court-martial convicted appellant pursuant to his pleas of seven specifications of making and uttering worthless checks by dishonorably failing to maintain sufficient funds, and two specifications of absence without leave, in violation of Articles 134 and 86, Uniform Code of Military Justice, 10 U.S.C. §§ 934 and 886 (1982) [hereinafter UCMJ].
