Defendant was charged with break ing and entering an unoccupied building with intent to commit larceny, MCL 750.110; MSA 28.305. The alleged offense occurred on October 19, 1989, sixty-six days after defendant’s twentieth birthday. Defendant petitioned for and was assigned to youthful trainee status pursuant to the Youthful Trainee Act, MCL 762.11 et seq.; MSA 28.853(11) et seq., and placed on two years’ probation. The people appeal as of right, contending that the court lacked jurisdiction to grant defendant youthful trainee status. We agree and reverse.
